Rabbi Yehuda Kolko was arrested in New York City on December 7, 2006 following a long-term investigation, police said.He was charged with four counts of sexual abuse, including two felony counts, and endangering the welfare of a child, police said. Video

Rabbi Yudi Kolko and Yeshiva Torah Temimah were hit with a $20 million civil lawsuit on May 5, 2006, accusing him of molesting two students more than 25 years ago.

One of the alleged victims said Rabbi Yehuda Kolko, 60, sexually assaulted him when he was a seventh-grade student.

Rabbi Joel Kolko was arrested in New York City on December 7, 2006 following a long-term police investigation. He was charged with four counts of sexual abuse, including two felony counts, and endangering the welfare of a child. The most recent sexual abuse was allegedly against an 8-year-old boy, who says he was abused while he was in the first grade during the 2002-03 school year.

Yet another victim comes forward. How many more will there eventually be? Based on kolko's long and tenuous track record it appears there will be many more in the coming days. The gedolim and others have permitted the coverup of the perpetrated crimes for so many decades, we have yet to conclude in total numbers the many victims that were forever scarred. Soon there will be John Doe 6 and unfortunately it won't end there.

YTT should not be allowed to function as a Yeshiva anymore. Why do parents still send their boys there I do not understand. Hopefully bemaru veyamainu they will permanently shut down YTT and arrest the MURDERER Lipa Margulis.

On another note. Isn't it absurd that a paper regarded as so pro-Israel, the "country", is yet so Anti-Israel the "Jew". In choosing to protect the interests and reputations of "Rabbi's" accused of heinous sex-crimes against children and adults, those who do so , weather they be another rabbi such as Yisroel Belsky, or a media venue such as the Jewish Press, they themselves become accessories to these crimes. It's utterly a complete hypocrisy.

When sentencing and judgment day comes, you will get to see Yehuda Kolko and his playmate Lippy Margulis looking very stylish in their fresh prison jump-suits. Don't worry Belsky has his jumpsuit reserved too.

The Jewish (trash paper) Press is GUILTY of defending "NOTORIOUS" (JP using that expression in reference to the website http://theawarenesscenter.org which is dedicated in helping all kinds of abuse victims and so much more) Child Molester Yehuda Kolko, and Sexual Offender Rabbi Mordechai Tendler. A Peek Under The Rug

Just a decade ago, the issue of sexual abuse in the Orthodox Jewish community was merely whispered about by some, discussed behind closed doors by few, and hushed up by many. It was certainly not a significant part of many public discussions and forums.

And yet this Thanksgiving weekend it was featured prominently on the agendas of the annual conventions of the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America, where I had the privilege of addressing the topic openly, and the Agudath Israel of America.

Prominent rabbinical leaders who spoke for the Agudah included Rabbi Matisyahu Salomon, the mashgiach of Bais Medrash Govoha; Rabbi Ephraim Wachsman, rosh hayeshiva of Maor Yitzchok; and Rabbi Chaim Dovid Zwiebel, the Agudah’s executive vice president for government and public affairs.

Acknowledgment of a problem is the first major step in confronting it. So we have come a long way, but we still have a long way to go. After all, the emphasis of the Agudah presentations was not on helping victims of abuse, but on calling for decent and responsible speech (which was judged to be lacking in many blogs which bring allegations to light) and on protecting the dignity and honor of many prominent Torah leaders (who have been subject to harsh criticism for their perceived mishandling of abuse cases). Nothing wrong with that—as far as it goes. Lashon hara (derogatory speech), lashon nekiah (decent speech), and kevod ha-Torah (respect for Torah and its teachers) are fundamental values in our tradition. But there are other fundamental values as well.

It is most appropriate for an organization like Agudath Israel to address head-on the issue of the molestation of innocent bodies and souls, the issue of the honor due to the tzelem Elokim (image of God) in which everyone is created and is violated when a person is abused, and the issue of correcting the misguided communal values and pressures which discourage and prevent victims from coming forward and getting the help they desperately need.

With all due respect to Rabbis Salomon, Wachsman and Zwiebel, I do not believe that many of the bloggers and accusers they roundly condemn and label as “resha’im” (wicked) or “maskilim” (corruptly modern) were motivated by a disdain for rabbis, their authority or their opinions. At least not originally.

My experience with many victims/survivors of abuse is that they desperately want rabbinic leaders and the community and the Torah and the halachic system—which they were taught to revere and upon which they were raised to depend—to work for them.

Many believe that rabbis and rabbinic judges are advocates for those that were hurt and injured. Many, whose physical and emotional welfare were torn apart, want, at the very least, their faith to sustain them and remain strong. But many of those who speak out in crude and insolent ways have felt betrayed by those very rabbis and communal mores in which they desperately wanted to believe. Many felt revictimized by those they believed should have been there to help them. So they lash out with feelings of betrayal, disillusionment, abandonment and resentment. This is perhaps no excuse for crude behavior, but perhaps an explanation…and an indictment.

Rabbi Salomon responded to the accusation that these matters were being swept under the rug through denial and cover-up by stating that, in fact, he and his colleagues have dealt with cases of abuse (kudos for this public admission) and that they do indeed sweep these matters under the rug—in the sense that they keep their efforts discreet in order to protect human dignity. Unfortunately, it appears to many of us that in doing so the human dignity of many victims has not been protected. It appears to many of us that in doing so perpetrators have been allowed to remain where they can perpetrate again and again.

It appears to many of us that misrepresented piskei halachah (halachic decisions)—like that of the gadol who was quoted as ruling that without penetration there has been no abuse, or those who promulgate prohibitions of speaking out because of lashon hara and mesirah—have been detrimental to the welfare of victims and have not been publicly corrected. It appears to many of us that the opinions of poskei ha-dor (leading halachic figures) in these areas have been roundly ignored by many (like those of Rav Shlomo Zalman Auerbach and Rav Yosef Shalom Elyashiv that obligate the reporting of known child abusers to the police in America).

When our community and its leaders will act efficiently, appropriately, and responsibly, their critics will be silenced. When allegations are listened to seriously and respectfully, and responded to effectively and properly—in accordance with the halachah and informed by the best expert resources contemporarily available—communal integrity and respect will be restored.

The problem with sweeping things under the rug, for whatever reason and for whatever motivation, is that the shmutz remains. Our communal carpet has been soiled for too long. And there’s just no more room under it to hide any more of our secrets. It’s time to peek under the rug and clean up the mess. n

The following was posted approximately 11 days ago by Rabbi Yisroel Belsky Shlita on other sites. Rav Belsky mentioned during one of his shiurim last week that he felt it to be Halachicly proper to notify the public on line since so many Yiddin are blatantly violating the issur of being on the internet and not listening to the rabbonim who have clarly forbid it and instead are today reading blogs over the internet.

I, Rabbi Yisroel (Israel) Belsky, feel the olam needs to know my daas regarding Rabbi Yudi Kolko Shlita. Rabbi Yudi Kolko should never have been arrested. A child, whether he is six years or nine years of age should not be assumed to be telling the truth accurately. And even if it were true that the child was touched inappropriately, these type of things happen all the time, its not enough of a reason to label the man a pedophile and danger to society. In the early 70’s,Yudi and I were together in Camp Agudah. I heard occasionally complaints from young campers that they had been fondled by Rabbi Yudi Kolko. Always I suggested that they allow me to go public with their accusation. It was my way of testing them for the truth. Each and every time, I heard the accusing child refuse. It was then clear to me that these campers were lying. Children are known to make up stories. To this day Yudi Kolko was never found to be dangerous to any children. To the contrary, Rav Pinchas Scheinberg Shlita and Rabbi (hagaon-hatzaddik) Lipa Margulis Shlita, after carefully investigating many of the accusers, made a very clear determination that Yudi Kolko was innocent of mishkav zachar, and that the claims of inappropriate touching was nothing more than his showing of affection. That was their psak many years ago, and the olam remains obligated to accept it without any question. We therefore must give no credence to the shouting voices of Yudi’s most recent accusers. These are people seeking false publicity and to make an easy dollar off the back of a Yeshiva which in reality they should be very grateful to. I therefore, as always continue to stand behind Rabbi Yudi Kolko Shlita and give him my fullest support. I am fully certain that at the end Rabbi Kolko will be acquitted of all the false charges.”

For clarification purposes: Someone e-mailed the above tragi-comedic post put on another site. After I verified that in fact Blogger-Posek Belsky indeed has expressed these sentiments, I decided to post it. The person that verified Belsky's positions spoke to him directly on the phone. That person is in a position of trust and someone I trust!

This case started during the question-and-answer session of a Makor forum on rabbinic abuse, (back in December, 2003) several female health-care professionals in the audience spoke with passion and frustration about a well-known rabbi in their local community whose affairs with women in his office, they said, have gone on for years.

The speakers said they felt stymied as to how to take action against the unnamed rabbi, who is highly respected, and help the women involved, who are too embarrassed to speak out.

Several sources have informed the Forward newspaper that a number of women have told friends and Jewish communal figures that Rabbi Mordechai Tendler, who is married with eight children, had propositioned them while serving in his role as either rabbinic counselor or religious arbiter."Rabbi Tendler denies all of the allegations that are being made in their entirety," the spokesman wrote in a statement sent to the Forward. "No misconduct was committed by him."

Rabbi Tendler is the founder and religious leader of Kehillat New Hempstead, a Modern Orthodox congregation near Monsey. According to the Foward article: Sources familiar with the situation say that the RCA has solicited the services of a private investigations firm from Texas to probe the allegations against Tendler."We take all these allegations very seriously and certainly don't want to whitewash it," said Rabbi Kenneth Auman, president of the RCA. "On the other hand, we also have to bear in mind the protection of the accused, and therefore I would prefer to wait with a statement, until we hear the final report."

According to sources of The Awareness Center the RCA hired Praesidium, Inc, which is a risk management company that was also used by the catholic church.

Rabbi Mordechai Tendler is a a grandson of the late Rabbi Moshe Feinstein, the Orthodox world's most respected religious arbiter for much of the 20th century

Sexual assault is not about sex, it is a way for the offender to gain a sense of power and control. Most offenders use manipulation and coercion in which physical force, a verbal threat, intimidation and/or blaming the victim is used to force sexual acts.

Anyone can become a victim of sexual assault regardless of gender, race, religious affiliation, age, or economic status. There are numerous forms of sexual assault, the most common occurs when a person known to the victim-a friend, co-worker, partner, or family member-forces unwanted, and or manipulated sexual acts.

Sexual harassment is any deliberate or repeated sexual behavior that is unwelcome to its recipient, as well as other sex-related behaviors that are hostile, offensive, or degrading.

Sexual violence is a crime that often leaves the sexual assault victims feeling physically and mentally violated. Reactions range from shock and denial to panic and confusion. Survivors may experience feelings of fear, anger, grief, guilt, shame, and loss of control. Some survivors may also feel helpless, depressed, and possibly even suicidal. While survivors commonly experience these feelings, each person will have a unique response to the assault. Sexual Violence is about power and control over another human being. It is disrespect. It takes away an individuals decision to do what (s)he feels is right for her/himself.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a debilitating health condition that does not allow an individual to move pass a traumatic event that has occured in his or her life and progress in recovery, returning to a more normal life. When someone faces a life-threatening or traumatic situation (s)he may have difficulties overcoming the effects associated with the event. Individuals suffering from PTSD may re-live the event in the form of nightmares or intrusive thoughts and images that pop into their head. They may suffer from chills, uncontrollable shaking and panic attacks when something triggers a memory, smell, or other sensation related to the traumatic event.
