13 years for pedophile who fled Israel
Judges criticize defense witnesses including rabbis for praising haredi man who was extradited from Britain to face accusations of sexual offences
Yoav Zitun
Nachman Stal, who fled to Britain after being accused of sodomizing a youth of 14 years, was sentenced Sunday to 13 years behind bars.
Stal, who was extradited to Israel in July last year, received 12 years' imprisonment for sexual offenses and an additional year for evading justice. Tel Aviv District Court also criticized rabbis who had come to Stal's defense.
The legal proceedings began a decade ago, when Stal was accused of indecent acts with a youth he had given a lift to as part of his job. According to the indictment, Stal touched the youth a number of times, and during one particular trip he stopped the vehicle near a bench, in a quiet place, and despite the youth's protests, sodomized him.
He then gave the youth NSI 200 ($50) and instructed him not to tell anyone. The youth finally told the rabbi of the school where he was studying. With support from this rabbi, he then submitted a complaint against Stal with the police.
In 2000, the accused fled Israel to Belgium, and the indictment was cancelled. A new indictment was submitted in 2005 when Stal returned to Israel, and one year later he again fled, this time to Britain.
The judges, headed by Judge George Kara, severely criticized the witnesses for the defense, including the wife and father of the accused, head of London's South Tottenham Jewish community Rabbi Michael Biberfeld, and Rabbi Yosef Krauser, who supervises the yeshivas in Jerusalem's Mea Shearim neighborhood.
The judges also referred to Stal's acts. "The accused took advantage of the victim's innocence and chose him in order to carry out his deviant acts," they wrote. "The accused tempted the victim a number of times, so that he would be easy prey."
In addition to the penalty of imprisonment, the court ruled that Stal must pay his victim compensation of NIS 50,000 ($13,500).

Rabbi Found Guilty of Sexually Abusing Teen
The Borough Park rabbi/travel agent accused in hundreds of incidents of sexual abuse was convicted yesterday of molesting a 16-year-old student. Baruch Lebovits could be sentenced to 32 years in jail, after being found guilty on eight counts. "I understand that there are a significant number of Jewish holidays coming up,” said the judge. “And I am sorry." The young victim testified that in 2004 Lebovits offered to let him drive his car, then unzipped his fly and performed oral sex on him. Among the rabbi’s other alleged victims is a young Hasidic man who committed suicide on his honeymoon, by jumping from the seventh story of a hotel.
Last week the victim—who’s since left the ultra-Orthodox community—said that after being abused by Rabbi Lebovits, he’s fallen prey to heroin and other substances. The defense attacked him as an unreliable addict, and insists he was trying to blackmail the powerful community leader. "We’re extremely disappointed," said lawyer Arthur Aidala of the guilty verdict. "We were hoping that the jury was going to see things differently...Mr. Lebovits still maintains his innocence." Friends and relatives gasped at the ruling, but at least one person was pleased. "Thank God, justice was served," said the father of the abused boy, according to the Daily News.
Lebovits was acquitted on two other counts, reports the Post, but still faces charges in two more molestation cases, that could earn him another eight years behind bars.

Old crimes are not crimes!
After checking with our rabonim, Agudah believes baruch Lebovits, Nachman Stal, Avrohm Mondrowits and Roberto Malimbam Antonio are a few pedophiles whose cases are too old for a conviction.

The Napa County Sheriff's Office arrested a Vallejo man at his home Thursday on suspicion of abducting a 9-year-old girl and molesting her in 1992.
The girl was taken from the Mount George Elementary School near Napa while playing with her brother on July 23, 1992, sheriff's Capt. Tracey Stuart said.
The girl was put in the trunk of a car and taken to a home where she was sexually assaulted, Stuart said. The suspect then dropped the girl off at Solano County Community College a few hours later, Stuart said.
The sheriff's office and the Napa County District Attorney's Office reopened the investigation in 2009 and identified 58-year-old Roberto Malimbam Antonio as a suspect. He was arrested around 8:30 a.m. Thursday at his home in the 100 block of Bayhurst Drive in Vallejo, Stuart said.
Authorities haven't disclosed what lead to the identification of Antonio as the suspect, Stuart said.
Antonio has been a registered sex offender since 1986. He was convicted of molesting a San Francisco child and another one from the Bay Area, both under age 14, in 1986 and 1987, Stuart said.
Antonio was booked onto the Napa County jail for committing a lewd act with a child and having prior similar offenses, kidnapping to commit other crimes and failing to update his address, Stuart said.
Antonio moved around the Bay Area since 1986 and had not registered the Vallejo address at which he was arrested, Stuart said.
He was scheduled to be arraigned in Napa County Superior Court today at 1:30 p.m.
The Napa victim was surprised and pleased when she learned her abductor has been arrested, Stuart said.
A March 4 posting at the Catholic League web site complained that though the story of the rabbi’s trial has been covered in the media, it is not front-page news. "The New York Post and the New York Daily News reported this story on pages 28 and 18, respectively," the posting read. "The scandal-loving tabloids have frequently featured front-page stories when the alleged perpetrator was a Catholic priest. Funny how an accused rabbi does not merit the same treatment."
It's not fair. Why is Mondrowitz not paying the price. He did far worse than I?
Nearly $1 million dollars earmarked for fighting sexual abuse in New York City’s ultra-Orthodox Jewish communities is sitting unused, while in the meantime, a second cash-strapped program has been set up.
According to the New York Daily News, in April 2009, New York State set aside $950,000 for a fund created by State Assemblyman Dov Hikind, Brooklyn Democrat, to educate Hasidic Jews about child abuse, how to fight it and how to speak out against it.
However, none of the money, which was included in the 2009 budget of the Office of Family and Children’s Services, has been spent. Hikind is still working out the details of the program, called Shomrei Yeldainu (“Guardians of our Children”). The program is the first state-funded sexual abuse awareness campaign targeting a single ethnic group.
"You have to develop something that is done correctly working with the rabbis and leaders," Hikind told the New York Daily News.
"Apparently, the Hasidim will only go to the Hasidim for help," Edward Borges, Office of Family and Children’s Services spokesman told the newspaper
At the same time, Project Kol Tzedek has been started on a tiny budget funded by a $40,000 grant from Altira Group Inc, a cigarette company, that pays an Orthodox social worker.
So far, almost 100 people have called the hotline, with more than 30 ultra-Orthodox men arrested and 16 charged with felonies.
Pa. School Bus Driver Charged in 2nd Fatal Crash
NORRISTOWN, Pa. — On-board surveillance video shows a school bus driver was sleep-deprived and didn't stop before turning into a suburban Philadelphia middle school, causing an accident that killed the passenger of an oncoming car, authorities said Monday.
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,589429,00.html
Yesterday, while driving home from some errands, I saw a teenage girl jogging on the street by herself, earphones on and long brown ponytail swinging.
The first thing I thought to myself was, “What is she doing?!” I wanted to roll down my windows and scream, “Run for your life! There might be a predator lurking in the bushes!” But I didn’t and kept driving, praying that it wasn’t true.
I started jogging in the 5th grade. I would get home from school, have a snack, and jog up to Mt. Soledad or around my neighboring streets. Sometimes I would run the canyons and take shortcuts without blinking an eye. I was 10.
My love of jogging continued through high school, college, my 20s, and now, my 30s. But going outside for a run doesn’t seem that appealing anymore. I don’t want to be tackled from behind by a six-foot sexual predator who has been let out on parole early even after he molested and beat a 13-year-old, didn’t show “a scintilla of remorse for his attack,” and assaulted another girl in December.
When my husband and I were looking to buy a house three years ago, with two children in tow, we found a great house in Rancho Bernardo that was right on the edge of a golf course. The backyard was gorgeous with sweeping grass views. But after doing a little research and looking up Megan’s Law [1], I found out a sexual predator lived directly across the golf course from us. Immediately, the house was off the table. I didn’t want some monster watching my kids with binoculars.
John Walsh, the host of “America’s Most Wanted,” best known for his anti-crime activism – and crimes against children in particular – had a six-year-old son, Adam, who was abducted from a Sears department store minutes from his home. They found a part of his body 16 days later in a ditch 100 miles away.
John Walsh’s devotion and lobbying has been instrumental in getting the National Sex Offender Registry in place. You can visit www.NationalAlertRegistry.com [2] and learn about offenders who live within a mile or more of your home. The site lets you know exactly where these people live, gives you a photo and lets you know what harm they have done to children.
After the devastating murder of Chelsea King and the discovery of Amber Dubois’ remains, I hopped on the Megan’s Law Web site again to find out what was going on in my neighborhood. I had done it when we first moved in, but hadn’t looked since.
I was shocked, disgusted and horrified to learn that six houses down, on the same street I live on, lives a prior convicted sex offender who had committed lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14 years. Jesus, Mary and Joseph.
I jumped in my car and drove down the street. I was nervous. I drove by the man’s address and as I did, the sexual offender walked out of his house and got into his car. Oh, my God. Breathe. Okay, now I know what car he drives.
Once home again, I continued to research my zip code. Out of the 20 convicted sex offenders listed, two of the men were rapists. My zip code, where my sweet little house sits on its quiet little street, in its unassuming location in central San Diego, is inhabited by child molesters and rapists.
What are they doing here?! There are kids in every house on my block! There are schools, parks and public libraries within a half a mile of all of them.
According to Ernie Allen, the president and CEO of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, there are 400,000 registered sex offenders in the United States, and an estimated 80,000 to 100,000 of them are “missing.” They’re supposed to be registered, but the monitors don’t know where they are or where they’re living.
I have two problems with this. I cannot grasp the reason why pedophiles, sexual predators, rapists and sex offenders are let out on the street again in the first place. The California Department of Corrections states that more than half of all convicted sex offenders are sent back to prison within a year. Within two years, almost 80 percent of them are back.
That means, the majority will likely do it again. Knowing those statistics, we should have a one strike rule. One strike and you’re out, sent to prison for life, given a long sentence (longer than the average 11 years) and then sent to live in a sexual predator town surrounded by a 15-foot electric barbed wire fence. These creatures need to be put away; they don’t deserve to live free. Living free is a privilege. They abused that honor.
The second problem I have is not knowing where these people are. If we can track a stolen vehicle through GPS systems, why can’t we track sexual predators? Once they commit any act of sexual violence, they should automatically get a GPS system inserted into their bodies, never to be removed. And it should be placed somewhere on their body where everyone can see it, like their forehead. This way, we can look on Google and know their exact whereabouts.
You might think I’m harsh, but I am a mother. If sexual predators are not expelled from society, they should be tracked constantly like the animals they are.
Chelsea King and Amber Dubois might still be alive if sex offender laws were stricter. But since they aren’t, we need to educate ourselves. Look on the Web sites listed above. Learn the faces of the sexual offenders in your area. Teach your kids self-defense. Buy pepper spray.
Knowledge is power.
To Mother, the reason sexual predators are free to molest is because we must give them the benefit of the doubt of repentance. Surely you have sinned and repented, shouldn't the same apply to them.
Mother doesn't understand that no penetration isn't a crime.
Even a blind poet can use his organ wisely, but should he abuse children we must assume he thought he was inside an adult.
Consequently, Nachman stal's chemotherapy treatment blinded his sight making him unable to determine if he was having relations with a man or a boy.
Nachman Stal has many religious rabbis defending his character, deeming him in my eyes as an honorable mentch.
11 year old boys are sweet and sugary. yummy!
He tells you molesters are bad etc. but he lobbied against legislation that would have opened up a 'one year window' for survivors to attain some relief and justice.
He continually praises to no limit many Rabonim who were silent or derailed justice for the accused.
He's two faced. BEWARE!
This case is toooo olllddd.
Pembrokeshire arrests over sex abuse from 30 years ago
Two men have been arrested following allegations of sexual abuse dating back about 30 years in Pembrokeshire.
Dyfed-Powys Police said the two, who are aged 49 and 53, were being questioned at Haverfordwest police station.
Officers said the allegations centred on the Narberth area of the county.
A spokeswoman for the force said: "[We can] confirm an investigation is under way in relation to complaints of historic sexual abuse."
Perhaps Rabbi Horowitz doesn't no the trick. Two words if you can't give a truthful answer - 'no comment' is all that is needed.
So the small men of the Moetzes Gedolei Chamorim club silently stand back as childen get raped by haredi beasts.
NEWARK — Eliahu Ben Haim has never missed a family bris. From Monmouth County to Brooklyn to Israel, the 58-year-old rabbi was there to do the honor for each of his first 13 grandsons’ ritual circumcisions.
But Ben Haim, arrested in last summer’s massive FBI sting, won’t make it for grandson number 14.
A federal judge in Newark yesterday denied the rabbi’s request to modify his bail conditions so he could travel to Israel to perform the ceremony. In his ruling, U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark Falk agreed with prosecutors that if Ben Haim were allowed to leave the country, he may never return.
"I do believe there are significant risks of non-appearance in this case," Falk said.
Ben Haim, principal rabbi at Congregation Ohel Yaacob in the Borough of Deal, is accused of using religious charities to launder $1.5 million for Solomon Dwek: a former rabbinical student and real estate fraudster-turned FBI informant. His work led to charges against five rabbis, three mayors, two assemblymen and one man accused of conspiring to sell a human kidney.
• Full coverage of the New Jersey corruption probe
Other rabbis charged in the probe have asked for permission to travel to Israel, and in some cases they have been allowed. But Ben Haim’s request, submitted Tuesday, carried a degree of urgency.
The rabbi’s grandson was born Sunday. Under Jewish law, boys must be circumcised at eight days old. To arrive in time and avoid flying on the Sabbath, the rabbi needed to leave immediately. So the judge hastily called a hearing.
Ben Haim’s lawyer, Lawrence S. Lustberg, argued the rabbi has no intention of fleeing. Most of his family is in New Jersey, the lawyer said. And Lustberg denied prosecutors’ assertion that Ben Haim had money hidden overseas.
"All that he has is here in the United States," Lustberg said.
But assistant U.S. Attorney Maureen Nakly said Ben Haim has ample incentive to run. The rabbi faces up to 20 years in prison, and authorities have more than 100 recordings of him discussing money-laundering deals.
"He will undoubtedly be convicted," Nakly said.
Bearded and bespectacled, the rabbi sat quietly during the hearing, wearing a dark suit and yarmulke. At one point, the electronic tracking device on his ankle began beeping loudly.
"Is there anyway to turn that off?" Lustberg asked.
"It goes off every three of four hours," the rabbi said, shrugging.
Ben Haim and Dwek both hail from the largely affluent and sometimes reclusive Syrian Sephardic community rooted in south Brooklyn and the Jersey Shore. The families had known each other for generations. Ben Haim watched Dwek grow up.
During today's hearing, Lustberg said the rabbi has been engaged in "constructive" plea negotiations with the government. But Ben Haim refuses to cooperate with prosecutors to help them convict other defendants in the case, Lustberg said afterward.
"This whole case is about the Dwek betrayal, and he does not want to be a part of that," Lustberg said.

A New York state agency is to finance a new $1 million programme to combat sexual abuse in the Orthodox community.
Assemblyman Dov Hikind, who represents a Brooklyn district with a large Orthodox community, said the scheme, called Shomrei yeladim ("Protectors of children"), will concentrate on educating children and parents about the dangers of abuse. It will also train professionals to deal with abuse in the Orthodox community.
The programme will be announced in coming weeks and would be financed by New York State Office of Children and Family Services.
However, critics allege that the money has been available since April 2009 and has been left unused while the programme was being worked out.
Until recently, sexual abuse was a taboo subject. Orthodox victims were deterred from calling the authorities. Allegations were met by community leaders with denial and disbelief.
But Mr Hikind said that progress had been made. "It's not the same world today that it was a year-and-a-half ago. This conviction now reiterates that this could be your next door neighbour."
The Brooklyn District Attorney has shown increased interest in sexual abuse in the Orthodox community during the past couple of years. Last year, about 25 men were arrested on related charges.
Two weeks ago, travel agent Baruch Lebovitz, 59, was found guilty of eight counts of abusing a 16-year-old boy and faces up to 32 years in prison.
Last month, a Chabad rabbi was sentenced to 60 days in jail after pleading guilty to endangering the welfare of a child. Yaakov Weiss, who founded the Chabad Hebrew School in Colonie, NY, admitted having inappropriate physical contact with two 13-year-old boys in a mikveh.

Do not send kids to yob. Abuse is rampant there; plus shlomo mandel uses his hands and fists as a punching bag against students and provides refuge and a job to his child molesting buddy yehuda nussbaum.
YOB should be forced to cough up millions.

Jewish brothers win settlement for alleged harassment at Harford office
$115,000 award over reported verbal, physical abuse
March 18, 2010|By Gus G. Sentementes | gus.sentementes@baltsun.com
Two Jewish brothers won a $115,000 settlement from a Texas-based human resources firm after alleging that they endured religious-based harassment - including verbal and physical abuse - while they worked at an office in Harford County, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said Wednesday.
Brothers Scott and Joseph Jacobson detailed several complaints, including being called "dirty Jew," "dumb Jew," "stupid Jew" and other anti-Semitic slurs by managers and co-workers while working at an office for Conn-X LLC, a cable TV service provider in Edgewood.
Scott Jacobson also said in court papers that his work vehicle was defaced with a swastika symbol, and that he was thrown into a trash bin, tied to a fence and shot at with BBs.
The brothers, who could not be located for comment, said in court papers they complained to Conn-X and Administaff Inc., a Texas-based company that oversaw human resources at Conn-X. But they said the companies didn't take action to correct a "hostile work environment," according to court documents. They first reported their complaints in September 2008, but the harassment had been occurring since 2005, the EEOC said.
According to a settlement reached this week, Administaff denied that it violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits discrimination against employees based on race, color, religion, sex or national origin.
In a statement Wednesday, Administaff officials said the brothers never complained to them, but the company launched an investigation as soon as it learned of their allegations.
"When Administaff first learned about the complaint of religious discrimination, it immediately began an investigation," wrote Jason Cutbirth, an Administaff spokesman. "Soon after learning of these allegations, Administaff ended its co-employer relationship with Conn-X."
Cutbirth said the company settled the case for an amount that was "far less" than the cost of continued litigation.
The brothers' case against Conn-X remains open. Officials with Conn-X could not be reached for comment.
Funny they should bring this up now, but Lipa Margulies and I are looking to start-up our own "Jewish" Boy Scouts for the summer of 2010.

The Boy Scouts of America has long kept an extensive archive of secret documents that chronicle the sexual abuse of young boys by Scout leaders over the years.
The "perversion files," a nickname the Boy Scouts are said to have used for the documents, have rarely been seen by the public, but that could all change in the coming weeks in an Oregon courtroom.
The lawyer for a man who was molested in the 1980s by a Scout leader has obtained about 1,000 Boy Scouts sex files and is expected to release some of them at a trial that began Wednesday. The lawyer says the files show how the Boy Scouts have covered up abuse for decades.
The trial is significant because the files could offer a rare window into how the Boy Scouts have responded to sex abuse by Scout leaders. The only other time the documents are believed to have been presented at a trial was in the 1980s in Virginia.
At the start of the Oregon trial, attorney Kelly Clark recited the Boy Scout oath and the promise to obey Scout law to be "trustworthy." Then he presented six boxes of documents that he said will show "how the Boy Scouts of America broke that oath."
If the Rabbis placed as much emphasis in filtering pedophiles as they do with the internet we would be far better off.
"As people who deal in education and meet the broad public on a daily basis, we are well acquainted with the challenges the world of the internet places before youth and adults – with its advantages and with its great dangers," summarized the rabbis in their letter. "Many individuals and families – young and old, men and women – have been harmed by these dangers, without any need to go into detail."
Mandel is a rasha gamur.
The police are expected to announce that there is no basis for a criminal investigation against Mordechai (Moti) Elon, a prominent religious Zionist rabbi who last month was accused of committing sex-related crimes.
Police said a preliminary probe indicates that while Elon did engage in sexual activity with young men, he did not violate any laws because they were of legal age and gave their consent....

Greenfield Announces Plan to Ensure that Children Are Safe In Schools
March 22, 2010
Brooklyn – New York City Council candidate and education advocate David G. Greenfield announced a plan that would require every non-public school submit their entire staff to fingerprint criminal background checks by the NYPD just like public school employees. The plan, which would apply to every yeshiva in Brooklyn, was crafted with consultation with Das Torah. Currently, yeshivas have no criminal background check requirement for their employees that would prevent criminals from being employed. This plan will give parents the confidence that their children are in a school with no criminals.
“When parents send their children to yeshiva, they trust that they are sending their children to a safe place for them to learn. There is nothing more important than keeping our children safe,” said Greenfield. “Keeping child predators and criminals out of our yeshivas is common sense legislation. When elected I will introduce legislation mandating criminal background checks for all yeshiva employees.”
Unlike other elected officials, Greenfield consulted with Das Torah before releasing this plan.
“The issue of abuse is serious and must be addressed accordingly.” Greenfield added. “When I am elected to the City Council, I will work collaboratively with our rabbonim and mosdos to combat this horrendous crime and ensure that our children are safe and secure.”
This is the same Litzman shielding Mondrowitz all these years.

Judaism teaches us that saving a life supersedes the entire Torah – were you not listening during that class? Does saving a life supersede the Shabbat, kashrut, or taking God’s name in vain – yet the only thing it doesn’t supersede is a few graves in Ashkelon?
I’m writing, Mr. Litzman, and you will be reading this. And both of us know you don’t care. You don’t care about Judaism, you don’t care about the Jews, and you don’t care about the living words of God. The only thing you and the bunch of disgraceful cynics who voted with you the other day care about is your pathetic smalltime politics.
You will have to face justice at God’s court above, as do all the people who have blood on their hands. Here on earth, as usual, we are the ones who will be paying the price.
Greenfield In The 44th »
By Elizabeth Benjamin
David Greenfield handily won the 44th CD special election to replace former Councilman Simcha Felder.
With 100 percent of precincts reporting, here are the unofficial results, according to the city Board of Elections:
- Greenfield: 7,070
- Joe Lazar: 4,842
- Kenneth Rice; 311.
According to a source in Greenfield's campaign, Greenfield carried Boro Park, which is unexpected and a blow to Assemblyman Dov Hikind, who was backing Lazar.
UPDATE: Other winners: Mayor Bloomberg, former Mayor Ed Koch, Sen. Joe Lieberman (for whom Greenfield worked), Sen. Marty Golden - all Greenfield backers.
Losers: Public Advocate Bill de Blasio, Comptroller John Liu, Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, Sen. Diane Savino (who switched her support to Lazar after initially backing Greenfield) and a host of other Democratic electeds who jumped on the Lazar bandwagon.

I can't believe after 10 years the police would be so stupid as to make this arrest.
Next thing you know the cops will be knocking on my door trying to do the same to me.
You know I had nothing to do with the Winnipeg rapes I'm accused of committing.

Rabbi Arrested in Chandler for Child Rape
Case allegedly happened in New York 10 years ago
Updated: Wednesday, 24 Mar 2010, 2:31 PM EDT
Published : Tuesday, 23 Mar 2010, 10:46 PM EDT
CHANDLER, Ariz. - A rabbi accused of raping a 7-year-old girl in New York a decade ago was arrested Tuesday outside his Arizona synagogue.
Authorities say 45-year-old Bryan Bramly was taken into custody in the parking lot of the Temple Beth Sholom Synagogue in Chandler by the members of the U.S. Marshals Child Predator Apprehension Team and detectives with the New York Police Department's Manhattan Child Abuse Unit.
They say Bramly is accused of raping the girl in March 2000 when she was spending the night at his family's residence in New York City where he was completing his studies to become a rabbi.
The girl -- now 17 -- reported the rape to the authorities in August 2009, but her reason for not coming forward sooner was unclear Tuesday.
Authorities say Bramly was being held in a downtown Phoenix jail awaiting extradition to New York. It was not immediately known if he had a lawyer.
The Levine suicide; shit happens and there's no reason to be tactful about saying that. All's I know is they're barking up the wrong tree if they think I'm capable of such things.
You would think since the vaad of queens backs me, and the fact that I'm also in charge of the mikvah - holiness is a part me and a reason these accusations following me are a load of baloney.
I don't think yanky horowitz, david zweibel or avi shafran will come to my aid on this. Conservmeisters are not popular at the agudah. I'm disappointed because my case is clearly an old one.
VATICAN CITY – The Vatican on Thursday strongly defended its decision not to defrock an American priest accused of molesting some 200 deaf boys in Wisconsin and denounced what it called a campaign to smear Pope Benedict XVI and his aides.
Church and Vatican documents showed that in the mid-1990s, two Wisconsin bishops urged the Vatican office led by then-Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger — now the pope — to let them hold a church trial against the Rev. Lawrence Murphy. The bishops admitted the trial was coming years after the alleged abuse, but argued that the deaf community in Milwaukee was demanding justice from the church.
An American protester in Rome on Thursday called the Murphy case an "incontrovertible case of pedophilia."
Despite the extensive and grave allegations against Murphy, Ratzinger's deputy at the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith ruled that the alleged molestation had occurred too long ago and that Murphy — then ailing and elderly — should instead repent and be restricted from celebrating Mass outside of his diocese.
The official, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone — now the Vatican's secretary of state — ordered the church trial halted after Murphy wrote Ratzinger a letter saying he was ill, infirm, and "simply want to live out the time that I have left in the dignity of my priesthood."
The New York Times broke the story Thursday, adding fuel to a swirling scandal about the way the Vatican in general, and Benedict in particular, have handled reports of priests raping children over the years..

German authorities said Monday they have arrested a man suspected of raping as many as 18 women and sexually assaulting dozens more in Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands over a 19-year period.
The 46-year-old German father-of-two is suspected of raping the woman in blocks of flats, student hostels and old people's homes, police and prosecutors said.
He is also suspected of up to 60 cases of sexual assault.
In my school if you do not dress appropriately they expel.
In my school if an administrator is accused of sexual misconduct, they accuse the accuser of lying and expel them.
Forgive me for lashing out violently when one day in the market my fist made contact with an abuser who molested me as a child.
Grownups have developed their minds and I was no different. So when blood and guts went flying all over the place that day, it was vigilante justice, rage with no mercy.
I understand that some onlookers were stunned, but I sought advice from "BIG" Rabbanim and all they did was say they will help. No surprise that I never heard from them again.

Fake Rabbis are one thing. Fake matzah?
Why are people so scared to admit the truth. I was molested by B.L, and my father is hiding some more dirty secrets from you guys.
Important Shatnez Alert From KAJ
March 28, 2010
We wish to reaffirm that the only laboratory authorized by the Rabbinate to check for shaatnez is the “KAJ Shaatnez Inspection Laboratory,” (K’hal Adath Jeshurun) led by Rabbi Kalman Strauss.
We have become aware that there is another non-shaatnez label being used that bears the words “Approved by KAJ.” This label is absolutely unauthorized. The Rabbinate takes no responsibility for the non-shaatnez status of any garments bearing such a label.

NY archbishop defends pope against sex abuse furor
By LARRY NEUMEISTER (AP) – 1 hour ago
NEW YORK — Archbishop Timothy Dolan was greeted with applause after finishing Palm Sunday Mass by defending Pope Benedict XVI against suggestions he aided cover-ups of reports of child abuse.
The standing-room-only crowd at St. Patrick's Cathedral applauded for 20 seconds after Dolan read a statement calling the pope the "leader in purification, reform and renewal that the church so very much needs."
Still, Dolan said reports of abuse of minors by some priests in Ireland and Germany and the retelling of the abuse of children by a priest in Wisconsin had "knocked us to our knees once again" and intensified the somberness of Holy Week, the most sacred time on the Christian calendar.
He urged the Manhattan congregation to pray for the pope, saying he was suffering some of the same unjust accusations once faced by Jesus.
"Anytime this horror, this vicious sin, this nauseating crime is reported, as it needs to be, victims and their families are wounded again, the vast majority of faithful priests bow their heads in shame anew and sincere Catholics like you experience another dose of shock, sorrow and even anger," Dolan said.
He added: "What deepens the sadness now is the unrelenting insinuations against the Holy Father himself, as certain sources seem almost frenzied to implicate the man."
In Vatican City, the pope in his Palm Sunday homily made no direct mention of the abuse scandal, which has drawn fresh attention to the church's handling of cases of pedophile priests.
Dolan in his homily also didn't mention the scandal, but a church spokesman alerted reporters in the crowd that he would make a statement at the end of the Mass, which lasted more than an hour.
Dolan credited the pope for making possible the progress the Catholic Church has made in the United States against "this sickening sin and crime," saying changes "could never have happened without the insistence and support of the very man now being daily crowned with thorns by groundless innuendo."
He asked whether the church and the pope "need intense scrutiny and just criticism for tragic horrors long past?"
"Yes! Yes!" he said, answering his question. "He himself has asked for it, encouraging complete honesty, at the same time eloquently expressing contrition and urging a thorough cleansing.
"All we ask is that it be fair and that the Catholic Church not be singled out for a horror that has cursed every culture, religion, organization, institution, school, agency and family in the world," he said.
Palm Sunday, the Sunday before Easter, marks Jesus' entry into Jerusalem and the laying of palm fronds before him. Outside the cathedral Sunday, worshippers emerging from the service with palm fronds were largely supportive of Dolan's remarks.
"I thought it was very well put," said Inga Yungwirth, of Hagerstown, Md. "It doesn't shake my faith."
Earlier, several protesters had gathered outside the Gothic-style cathedral, which sits on Fifth Avenue opposite Rockefeller Center.
"Honk if Pope should resign," said one sign, which attracted only an occasional toot from drivers.
(Reuters) - The Catholic Church's response to cases of sexual abuse by priests is crucial to its credibility and it must "acknowledge and make amends for" even decades-old cases, a Vatican spokesman said on Saturday.
"acknowledge and make amends for" even decades-old cases
How dare they say that? What, are they trying to bankrupt yeshivos and churches?
We need every penny we get, why do you think we take money from congressmen in return for securing democratic votes, and then we lobby against gay marriage like the innocence of a child ?
Rabbi Dovid Zweibel, The face of Agudah, is featured on the front cover of the "ZMAN" magazine for his effort to spare the life of a now carried out death penalty sentence of a Jewish inmate.
This is ludicrous! Zweibel is on record opposing the amendment to the statute of limitations for sexual abuse victims to include a one year window.
How can a man who supposedly cares so much about human life act "compassionately" with the former, and with total disregard in the latter?
A U.S. expert on the Vatican says a Good Friday homily at St. Peter's Basilica comparing accusations against the church over the sex abuse crisis to the suffering of Jews is evidence of a failing strategy.
The Rev. Thomas Reese, a senior fellow at the Woodstock Theological Center at Georgetown University, says Pope Benedict XVI doesn't seem to have any good advisers on how to handle the sex abuse scandal.
In his Good Friday homily, the Rev. Raniero Cantalamessa likened accusations against the pope and the church in the sex abuse scandal to "collective violence" suffered by the Jews.
Reese says people at the Vatican should have some idea of how their words will be perceived outside. He says he fears European bishops are making the same mistakes as U.S. bishops years ago.

VATICAN CITY – It was the Catholic calendar's holiest moment — the Mass celebrating the resurrection of Christ. But with Pope Benedict XVI accused of failing to protect children from abusive priests, Easter Sunday also was a high-profile opportunity to play defense.
"Holy Father, on your side are the people of God," Cardinal Angelo Sodano told the pontiff, whom victims of clergy sexual abuse accuse of helping to shape and perpetuate a climate of cover-up. Sodano, dean of the College of Cardinals, dismissed those claims as "petty gossip."
Sodano's words irked a prominent advocacy group, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests.
"When we speak up and tell how our childhood innocence was shattered by sexual assaults by priests, it is not 'petty gossip,'" SNAP president Barbara Blaine said in a statement.
And what is so wrong to send garbage to another city, at least we make it someone else problem and not ours.
His speech ignored demands by victims that he shoulder some responsibility for a common practice by bishops in the past of shuffling pedophile priests from parish to parish rather than sullying the church's reputation by defrocking clergy who raped, sodomized or otherwise sexually abused minors.
I noticed the word used here is "assaulting" which doesn't point to any penetration.
In Milwaukee, where one priest was accused of assaulting some 200 deaf boys, at least a dozen churchgoers told The Associated Press they were not closely following a scandal that has engulfed the church. A canonical trial was initiated against the Rev. Lawrence Murphy years after the alleged abuse, but a Vatican office led at the time by Benedict, then Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, halted the proceedings. Murphy died soon after.
Please do not involve me in any boy-Rabbi scandals of the sexual nature if it is not in boro park
When John Paul II died five years ago the crowd that packed St Peter’s Square for his funeral clamoured “Santo subito (Saint now)!” in a spontaneous tribute to the charisma of the Polish pontiff.
As the faithful marked the anniversary of John Paul’s death on Good Friday, however, he was being drawn into the scandal over child abuse in the Catholic church that has confronted his successor, Benedict XVI, with the worst crisis of his reign.
Allegations that the late pontiff blocked an inquiry into a paedophile cardinal, promoted senior church figures despite accusations that they had molested boys and covered up innumerable cases of abuse during his 26-year papacy have cast a cloud over his path to sainthood.
The most serious claims related to Cardinal Hans Hermann Groer, an Austrian friend of John Paul’s who abused an estimated 2,000 boys over decades but never faced any sanction from Rome.
Cardinal Christoph Schönborn, Groer’s successor, criticised the handling of that scandal and other abuse cases last week after holding a special service in St Stephen’s cathedral, Vienna, entitled “Admitting our guilt”.
Schönborn condemned the “sinful structures” within the church and the patterns of “silencing” victims and “looking away”.
Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger — who became Pope Benedict — had tried to investigate the abuses as head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, according to Schönborn. But his efforts had been blocked by “the Vatican”, an apparent reference to John Paul.
Asked by The Sunday Times whether John Paul’s role in the cover-up of abuse should be investigated, Schönborn said: “I have known Pope Benedict personally during 37 years of amiable acquaintance and I can say with certainty that ... he made entirely clear efforts not to cover things up but to tackle and investigate them. This was not always met with approval in the Vatican.”
The Groer affair became public in 1995 when former pupils of an elite Catholic school accused him of sexual abuse.
After an outcry, Groer was replaced and made the prior of a convent. He was never punished and issued only a vague apology in 1998 before retreating to a nunnery where he lived until his death in 2003. Some of his victims were offered “hush money” from the church.

Whether or not these stories are true is one question. But it must not go forgotten that these are a fraction of 1 percent of religious Jews - even if it is true.
Every piece of Lashon Harah and Motzi Shem Ra - it would make the Chofetz Chaim Proud!
Maybe find a different job in life?!
Motzi Shem Ra means making up a false story.
To spread something that is true can only be done by the authority of a rabbi. Would you want it to be spread about who you are, site writers?
Last 3 Anons prove once again the "Chelm" mindset of justifying abuse in the name of the Torah.
The choftez chaim would have no problem whatsoever with alerting others to "yidden" who perpetrate these heinous crimes and those enabling it.
So try again, anon - but maybe this time take your head out of the sand!
passage in Leviticus instructs, "Do not stand idly by while your neighbor's blood is being spilled," (19:16)
